A veterinarian will take his or her own life on average every 12 weeks in Australia.

 "It is a harrowing statistic, but one well known among Perth vets" according to an article published on an ABC News website

But it's not just WA vets succumbing to depression - it's a national problem according to the Australian Veterinary Association

While other health care professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, dentists and nurses are around twice as likely to commit suicide than the general population, veterinarians have been shown to be up to four times more likely to fall victim to suicide.
